HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
The office will be closed on Wednesday afternoon, and next Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday. The staff wishes everyone a safe and happy day with family and friends. |
SCAOR's leadership team is attending the National Association of REALTORS® annual convention with several thousand REALTORS®. On Monday evening, the 2008 President Dick Gaylord was installed and said, "Today, we begin an incredible journey. "All Together", I believe we will achieve our shared vision and ensure that the Voice for Real Estate continues to strengthen our communities and our nation - in uncommon ways."
SCAOR's Installation of Officers will occur on December 11 at the Lewes Yacht Club. We will share how our Local Association will work toward the same goal as NAR in our 100th year and ensure we are "All Together".

The Diversity Committee's "Housing Summit" has received many positive comments and reviews from the participants as well as local press. In fact, an encore or sequel has been requested; therefore, we will move ahead with another program in June of 2008. The Diversity Committee will celebrate its first year in January.

Did you know that in 1999 approximately 5% of REALTORS® were considered a minority?
Today, we have increased minority REALTORS® to 25%.
A few questions have occurred since the November 2, 2007 meeting. You can imagine with 1400 members with various backgrounds, experience, and Association knowledge it can be challenging to anticipate all questions. The good news was, is, and continues to be: SCAOR is an open organization for our members. You have the ability to become as involved and informed as you choose. Your website, SCAOR.com; Innovia, At A Glance, email, and blast faxes are the methods employed to inform, invite, and involve you. And don't forget, realtor.org is full of information.

NOVEMBER IS REALTOR® DESIGNATION AWARENESS MONTH
During this month, the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® encourages members to start, complete, or continue an official NAR designation or certification program. This week we spotlight the GRI, or Graduate REALTOR® Institute Designation. According to the member survey conducted in 2003 by the National Association of REALTORS®, REALTORS® with a designation earned over $33,200 more annually than non-designees. As of late 2006, you can now earn your GRI by taking a series of six 2-day modules at DAR. You may take these modules in any order.

MLS COMMITTEE
We frequently hear, "How do I get on the MLS Committee?" The MLS Committee is governed by the SCAOR By-Laws which explain the 12 member Committee must have a specific composition of Brokers of Record (designated REALTORS®), Brokers, and agents. We must ensure a balance in several different areas. Additionally, experience with MLS and other technology is extremely important. Members are appointed in staggered terms since knowledge and continuity are critical for the success of the MLS Operations. Members must be willing to work many hours beyond the meetings to accomplish the business. We will post vacancies and recruit for this committee separately from other committee recruitment.
ON THE SAFE SIDE
To be on the SAFE SIDE, please review the MLS Rules and Regulations to eliminate errors in the system that could lead to MLS violations and fines. To print out a copy of the rules, simply click on "standard forms" in InnoVia. Click on "2005 MLS fine system-rev07-04.pdf" for a complete list of MLS violations and fines associated with them. For the latest version of the MLS Rules and Regulations, click on "2007 MLS Rules.pdf." These rules and regulations have been submitted and reviewed by NAR and are in full compliance with National Association policy.
