The Sussex County Association of REALTORS® will have a General Membership meeting on June 19, 2008 at 8:30 am in the Cheer Center, Georgetown. Breakfast will be provided. To ensure a seat and breakfast, please RSVP by using the registration link. All REALTOR® members have also received an additional meeting notice including notice of proposed amendments to the by-laws and the need to VOTE on the proposed amendments. The entire draft of the By-laws has also been mailed to each Broker of Record with SCAOR membership. Please note, this meeting is for Sussex County Association REALTOR® members and not MLS only members.

 
 
NOMINATIONS SOUGHT FOR 2009 LEADERSHIP POSITIONS

TO: ALL SCAOR REALTOR^® Members

The Association's Nominating Committee is now accepting nominations for the 2009 Leadership team. As a potential Board of Director member, your responsibility to SCAOR would be to help move the Association in a positive forward direction and have a genuine concern for the members. With the rapid changes that are occurring in the real estate industry, as well as DAR and the National Association of REALTORS^®, a leadership position is a very important job. As a volunteer, we try to keep the meetings to a minimum. Your attendance is requested at all Board of Director meetings, Broker meetings, and any social events put on by the Association. You may also be asked to help lobby at legislative hall in Dover if an important bill needs support.

If you are interested in applying for any of the positions listed below, please complete the attached form and return it to SCAOR. It is important that you supply the Committee with as much information about yourself as possible. The nomination committee will review, in detail, all the applications received, and its recommendation to the Board of Directors for a Slate of Officers will be based on the information you provide.

• 1^st Vice President - One year term, a position of growth towards the Presidency, not automatic renewal position
• 2^nd Vice President - One year term, a position of growth towards the Presidency, not automatic renewal position
• Treasurer - One year term, responsible for the finances of SCAOR and chairperson of the Finance Committee
• 1 Year Director - A one year term
• 2 Year Director - A two year term
• 3 Year Director - A three year term

Below is a case interpretation related to Article 12. Please read the complaint and make a judgment on how the Professional Standards Panel should rule. The Hearing Panel's decision will be published in next week's At a Glance.

Case #12-1: Absence of Name on Sign

Prospect A observed a sign on a vacant lot reading: "For Sale - Call 330-5215." Thinking he would be dealing with a For Sale by Owner, he called the number on the sign. He was surprised and offended that the lot was exclusively listed by REALTOR^® A, and the telephone number on the sign was the home number of REALTOR-ASSOCIATE^® B in REALTOR^® A's office.

Prospect A filed a complaint against REALTOR^® A and REALTOR-ASSOCIATE^® B alleging a violation of Article 12 of the Code of Ethics.

At the hearing, REALTOR^® A stated that he permitted REALTOR-ASSOCIATE^® B to put up the sign. REALTOR-ASSOCIATE^® B's defense was that the sign was not a "formal" advertisement, such as a newspaper advertisement, business card, or billboard, to which he understood Article 12 to apply.
