NAR LEADERSHIP SUMMIT UPDATE
August 20 - 22 was the 2009 President training dates in Chicago. Steve Alexander, 2009 SCAOR President, was busy listening to the latest REALTOR® initiatives. Lawrence Yen, NAR Economist and a top rated economist, was on hand to share "Sharp or Modest Rebound?" Generally, the real estate marketing is rebounding and sales are increasing. Buyers are returning.
The big picture:
- prices stabilize and foreclosures are minimized
- buyers lack confidence
- credit tightening
- market has been stable last 9 months
- First Time Homebuyer Stimulus Package may help
- 9% of homeowners have subprime loans
We also learned that realtor.com will be making enhancements and changes to the #1 real estate listing site. The change will be a focus on REALTORS® and not just listings. This should keep the REALTOR® in the conversation. Make sure you have your photo included on Innovia.

Click on the icon, click help, click check for software updates. It's that easy! |

Changes to MLS Rules and new MLS Waiver Form
The MLS Committee, with the approval of the SCAOR Board of Directors, has revised the existing form used to notify the MLS of the seller's refusal for the listing to be disseminated through SCAOR MLS.
The MLS rules have required a "listing waiver" be completed and sent to the Association office within 48 hours of the listing date along with a copy of the listing. The revised form is found on Innovia as SCAOR MLS Listing Waiver.
Please ensure you promptly submit the forms to our office in a timely manner. Violations of this rule have a significant fine of $1,000.00. It is to everyone's benefit to have the listing waivers on file should a concern arise.
Also available on Innovia are newly revised MLS rules that include Section 1.18: Required Attachments and Section 17 for reciprocal key card usage.
We appreciate your attention and use of the new forms. Please do not hesitate to contact me with your concerns or questions.
Sincerely,
Ruth Briggs King
Executive Vice President. |

ETHICALLY SPEAKING...Our Duties as REALTORS®

The
Code of Ethics of the National Association of REALTORS
® establishes a public and professional consensus against which the practice and conduct of REALTORS
® and REALTOR-Associates
® may be judged. In joining a Board of REALTORS
® , you signify your intention to abide by the Code and thereby enhance the public and professional image of yourself and all other REALTORS
®. Adherence to the Code is the first great bond between REALTORS
® throughout the country.
The Code of Ethics Case Studies which you have been reading have been developed by the Professional Standards Committee of the National Association of REALTORS® to help REALTORS® and Realtor-Associates® understand the ethical obligations created by the Code of Ethics, and as a reference work for Grievance Committees, ethics and arbitration Hearing Panels, and Boards of Directors.
Code of Ethics Case Studies present specific situations involving charges of alleged unethical conduct by REALTORS® and/or REALTOR-Associates®, which are reviewed by a peer panel of Board Members and in which decisions as to ethical conduct are reached. Each case study provides the Hearing Panel's decision based on the facts and the rationale for the decision.
We hope these Case Studies help you in considering your duties and applying good ethics in your dealings with Customers, the Public, and with other REALTORS®.
Tune in for another case study next week!
