VERY HELPFUL, INFORMATIVE AND LOTS OF USEFUL INFORMATION

DC Bus Trip Last Wednesday, REALTORS® rode the SCAOR bus to join members already attending NAR's Midyear Expo. After scouring the Expo for great deals for REALTORS®, the bus took them to Capitol Hill to meet with Senators Carper and Kaufman, and Congressman Castle. Feedback from bus riders includes "very helpful, informative and lots of useful information" and "I plan to ride the bus next year, this was a great event in all respects."

Hope to see YOU on the RPAC bus next year!

SCAOR and the SCAOR Foundation are part of the challenge to meet local blood bank needs this summer. And, we will also remind our members of the benefits to joining the Blood Bank as a REALTOR® group member.

We are gearing up for Blood Bank of Delmarva's 7th Annual Summer Blood Challenge and we are ready to WIN! Since fewer people give blood during the summer, this is our chance to do something good for the community and possibly win the title of "TOP Lifesaving Organization".

Every member who participates has a chance to win great prizes, including one of four $50 VISA gift cards awarded weekly throughout the Challenge, a $500 VISA Gift card, and an all-inclusive dream vacation for two to Edenh Real Arenda and Resort in Punta Cana! Between May 26 and September 5, you can earn points and chances to win prizes!

How do you earn points? Become a Blood Bank member (1 point); Give blood (1-2 points); Sign up for a 5K walk/run on Saturday, July 18 and if you are under 35 and donating you receive 2 points.

Where: Contact www.delmarvablood.org and find out when/where the mobile will be in your neighborhood. Please call 1-888-8-BLOOD-8 and tell them you are a member of SCAOR and the Summer Blood Drive.

We thank you...and your family, neighbors, friends, and visitors thank you!

RONNIE REALTOR®

Getting Price Reductions

Because I do so much teaching, I receive, almost on a daily basis, articles, updates, teaching tips, and educational material from many, many sources. Every so often I come across an article that I think is worth sharing.

The following article, written by Christy Crouch, falls into that category.

SCIF usually refers to Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF), a high-value property due to the fact that a SCIF is required for government contractors to accomplish most of their work. Some companies renovate a portion of their building to be a SCIF, where their Department of Defense, Homeland Security, NSA and other secure government work must be accomplished. The larger government contractors usually require their entire office building to meet SCIF requirements.

A new Delaware program, Secure Contractor Incentive Financing (SCIF) offers 0% financing to fit out secure space, to reduce costs to facility owners/developers and attract more government contractors to our wonderful state. Details >>

UPDATE FROM THE PUBLIC AWARENESS COMMITTEE

Working behind the scenes, we have created a marketing campaign to include the Baltimore, Washington, and Philadelphia markets. The planned release time is scheduled to begin before Memorial Day and continue through the high season. Additionally, we will have a complimentary presence on the web which is coordinated with the television campaign. Plus, we will continue to sponsor key Sussex County events which draw local and high visitor participation. Finally, the updated, recreated website for the Sussex County Association of REALTORS® is work in progress.

Please assist us in the update by completing a member survey when it zooms into your mailbox!

ETHICALLY SPEAKING... Our Duties to REALTORS®

Please read the REALTOR® Code of Ethics Article 15. How do you think the Professional Standards Panel ruled in last week's Case Study? Below is the Hearing Panel's decision.

Case #15-2: Intentional Misrepresentation of a Competitor's Business Practice

The Hearing Panel, in its deliberations, noted that cooperation and compensation are not synonymous and though formal, blanket offers of cooperation and compensation can be communicated through Multiple Listing Services, even where they are not, cooperation remains the norm expected of REALTORS®. However, to characterize REALTOR® Z's refusal to pay requested compensation as a "refusal to cooperate" and to make the assumption and subsequent statement that REALTOR® Z "did not cooperate with buyer agents" was false, misleading, and not based on factual information.

Consequently, REALTOR® X was found in violation of Article 15.

McGinnis Inducted into National RPAC Hall of Fame

Congratulations to Phil McGinnis The Delaware Association of REALTORS® is proud to announce that Philip McGinnis with McGinnis Realty in Dover has become a member of the National Association of REALTORS® RPAC Hall of Fame. Phil was officially inducted in the Hall of Fame at a ceremony conducted during the 2009 NAR Midyear Meeting in Washington, D.C. last week.

Hall of Fame membership is conferred in recognition of REALTORS® who have made an extraordinary commitment to RPAC.

"Phil becomes only the second Delaware REALTOR® to join this distinguished group," said Denise Tatman, DAR Executive Officer. "He joins Pat Campbell White of Rehoboth Beach who qualified in 2002 and was inducted in 2003. There are only 154 REALTOR® members to date who have qualified for the Hall of Fame recognition."

Bravo and congratulations Phil! Pictured in the photo with Phil McGinnis (center) are Charles Oppler, Chairman of the National Association of REALTORS® RPAC Trustees and John Harrison, Political Fundraising Liaison for the RPAC Trustees.
