Shackle Release

We have had a couple reports from agents indicating they were unable to release the shackle on a lockbox assigned to a property. If you experience a lockbox where the shackle does not release, please perform the following steps:

  1. Insert your SentriCard, wait for the CODE light and then enter your PIN and press ENT. The READY light should illuminate.

  2. With the SentriCard still in the lockbox, press FUNC 1 ENT.

  3. You will hear 5 sets of triple beeps and then you should hear the gears turning to release the shackle. Make sure you are fully supporting the weight of the lockbox (i.e. lift up on it) during this process. Also, if the lockbox has a Protective Cover on it, make sure the cover isn't wedged between the rubber boots on the shackle and the top of the lockbox. When it's installed correctly the Protective Cover should be able to slide freely over the shackle.

  4. If the shackle still does not release, try the following things:

    1. Repeat Steps 1 through 3 above, but while you hear the 5 triple beeps in Step 3, with one hand press the shackle down against the door knob and with your other hand bounce the lockbox up and down gently, but as rapidly as you can. The idea is to rapidly jiggle the shackle in and out of the lockbox during the shackle release cycle. If this succeeds, lubricate the lockbox per the instructions below.

    2. If the "bouncing" method in Step 4a didn't work, open the key door and apply a very small amount of lubricant into the hole in the back of the key chamber (see below for details on the lubricant), then repeat the FUNC 1 ENT shackle release process.

Lubricating a Lockbox - As a preventative measure, SentriLock has mailed a can of lockbox lubricant to each brokerage. The lubricant is called "Super Lube" and is a multi-purpose synthetic Syncolon® lubricant. Note that this is the only type of lubricant that should be used on a SentriLock lockbox.

If you are experiencing a shackle that seems to stick when you're trying to release it, applying a very small amount of lubricant should eliminate the difficulty. Before using the lubricant, be sure to shake the can so that the Syncolon® is property mixed and then spray a very very small amount (half a second of spray is plenty) into each of the lockbox shackle holes and the key compartment latch hole using the flow tube that was provided with the can.

Please note that this is a preventative measure and should be needed no more than one time. The lockboxes are not designed to require repeated lubrication to operate properly.
