Do Unto Others

House Buyers

Remember the Golden Rule - Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Let's apply it!

  1. When another agent calls, faxes, or emails you for feedback, have the courtesy to call, email or fax them back with comments on your showing.

  2. Use the MLS cop for MLS violations, not for a "wish list" of what you wish the agent would have included in the MLS entry. It would be so much nicer to pick up the phone and call the listing agent and ask, as an example, if the listing agent had room sizes, or utility bills, etc.

  3. Simply because a property has a SentriLock lockbox on it, do not consider this as your license to enter at will. Please call the listing office to confirm that it's okay to show. Agents who have not followed this procedure have set off alarms, intruded on family time, and caused Sellers to be annoyed with the general REALTOR® population.

  4. When a new agent does something that does not follow company policy, instead of talking about them behind their back, offer to explain the company policy and share your experience.

  5. If you've made an appointment to show a property at a specific time and you're running late, have the courtesy to call the listing office so they can call the owner, who may be waiting for you.

  6. When getting ready to enter a property that you're going to show, be sure to ring the doorbell or knock first.

  7. Not all properties will show beautifully. Try to say positive things about the property.

  8. Leave the property as you found it; someone else may be following you to show it.

Mutual respect is essential in the real estate business. What you do today may affect your reputation for years to come.

See you next week.
